About the tow system:
By all means this should go to an RV owner who needs the perfect toad. I will split the jeep from the tow package if necessary but it’d be a shame. The Jeep wrangler is by far the #1 tow behind vehicle and for good reason. Light weight, mechanical transfer case (meaning a true neutral t-case gear), front end tracks naturally with no special alignment required, convertible top, 4 wheel drive and fun.
The Blue OX tow system is also the standard in tow-behind systems. All the components installed ad up to about $4,500 installed. Once installed you can connect and unhook your toad and drive away in literally seconds and the tow bar stores easily out of the way on the RV, not the jeep. I installed this one on the jeep because I have all the tools and know-how. So it was done with more TLC than any shop would provide.
The tow system consists of: base plate mounted to jeep frame (w/safety cables), standard 7 pin wiring (like on a trailer) that powers the running, brake and turn signals plus keeps the jeep battery charged and powers the Patriot Electronic Braking Unit, the telescopic tow bar system for the RV or towing vehicle (with cover), safety cables, emergency breakaway connection and electronic brake actuator for tow vehicle with wireless controller for inside the RV (lets you manually apply brake, monitor braking mode and set the gain.
I wired this up special so that the emergency break-away switch and power to the electronic break actuator is a one-plug system (standard trailer type 4-pin) at the driver floorboard for one plug and done operation. Again, seconds to disconnect and drive away. FYI -the emergency break-away will never be needed. It applies brakes to the jeep if by some impossible miracle the jeep breaks completely away from the tow vehicle, which is not possile -but it’s the law in almost every state.
About the jeep TJ:
As you may have guessed we are selling our class A motorhome (see ad for 2017 Thor Ace 9.5K miles) because, as weekend warriors, it’s way too much for 2 people. More of a full-time, cross-continental live-in setup. Oops. We’ll find another when we retire.
I want to keep the jeep, wife said no, I said yes, she said no. I felt like I was winning for a minute but here we are.
We bought this immediately after the RV (march 2024) to tow behind. But it’s super nice and fun to drive -easy to park. 85 MPH on HWY no problem. Not my first jeep but I really like this one. 108K miles which is low for a 2000 and it has the best engine jeep ever made, the 4.0 liter straight six. 5 speed manual, lots of torque and easy to drive. It’s the top-end Sahara edition so it has the full carpet kit and nice seats/interior.
It didn’t NEED anything but I always go through my used vehicle purchases to make sure they are ready for the next 100K miles. So I changed the oil and filters (full synthetic) replaced the original shocks with Ranchos, installed new front brake pads and ½ inch coil spring spacers because the BRAND NEW 31” BFG all terrain tires rubbed a little in sharp turns. Also have new rear brake shoes and spark plugs in the box which will come with the jeep. Includes original hard top, full best-top tan soft top (small mouse hole from storage -easy patch), full bikini top that covers front and rear seats, and tonneau cover new in the box (covers the rear starting behind the front seats when the rear seat is folded down). Optima blue sealed deep cycle battery and new sony stereo with blue tooth and all the modern features, installed new LED flood lights up front which operate with factory switch.
Only issue is cosmetic -the body and paint are excellent for the year but I guess some years had issues with the hood paint peeling -This is one of them. It doesn’t bother me but for $300-400 you can buy a new aftermarket hood and have it painted to match or jest fix the original.
The Jeep needs nothing at all for years of fun ahead. Cold A/C and everything works perfectly.
$11K firm for the jeep alone. $13K including the $4.5K Blue Ox tow system
