Cheesy Indian naan bread, oh how we love thee!

The Passage Brady in the 10th arrondissem*nt of Paris has been on our list of places to visit and explore for quite some time. On a lazy Monday, we took the day off together and spent the first half of the day exploring the Passage Brady and the surrounding Indian quarter before walking to the Marais where we spent the afternoon. It was a lovely day!

The Passage Brady in Paris

There are 25 covered passages left in Paris. In 1850, Paris had 150 covered passages. Haussman’s re-structuring of Paris in the second half of the 19th century created many of the large, open avenues we still have in Paris today by opening upmany of Paris’ Streets. Unfortunately, the opening of Paris’ Streets resulted in the destruction of the majority of the covered passages.

We love exploring the remaining covered passages of Parisand learning about the fascinating history of each one.

The Passage Brady is busy and bustling with energy. On a Monday morning, people were all around buying fruits and vegetables, chatting and laughing with one another.

Inside the Passage Brady, there are small Indian supermarkets, a fish spa and many Indian restaurants. The passage smelled of naan bread. Next time we visit, we will stay for lunch. We were very tempted by all of the beautiful scents drifting from the various restaurants!

Ingredients

Scale

  • 200 g of whole wheat flour
  • 1 pot of natural yogurt
  • Paneer cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon of sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of yeast
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil

  2. Add yeast, sugar, salt and yogurt and mix again on medium speed.
  3. Add water and mix again (still on medium speed).
  4. Once a large ball of dough forms, detach bowl from the Kitchenaid, cover bowl with a tea cloth and leave your dough to rest (and rise) for 3-4 hours.
  5. When dough has risen, divide into 4 balls.
  6. Use a rolling pin to flatten your dough.
  7. Heat frying pan with a small amount of olive oil to keep dough from sticking to the frying pan.
  8. Place rolled and flattened dough on frying pan and cook for 4 minutes on each side.

Notes

You can add crushed garlic and/or herbes de provence to your dough in the second step of our recipe for extra flavor!
